Anything alternative–any herb, food, behavior, action, practice, alternative health modality or division or type of alternative field (ie–naturopathy, homeopathy, acupuncture, color therapy, music/art therapy/massage) etc
anything to help a specific illness mentioned, all mental illnesses or just anything besides medical, psychotropic drugs
My personal one is clinical depression so anything that might help that would be greatly appreciated as well
thanks
you know red angel of the things you list as causes for depression, I believe, I have almost all of them and related very much to that of course that I have low serotonin, I think my low stomach acid or other things causing food to be undigested is causing lack of vitamins and mineral despite a very good diet, definitely have a lack of sunlight and probably vit d as I almost never get outdoors in the daylight due to my bad delayed sleep phase syndrome, also show signs of hormonal and thyroid imbalances (I have all the symptoms of thyroid problems and shot adrenals from decades of unrelenting stress, I have it genetically on both sides of the family, definite stress. Not sure what lifestyle factors include and do not have Lyme’s so I have virtually all these things.
Also have bad anxiety…you listed the causes as follows.
ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION – low serotonin levels, lack of essential vitamins and minerals, Vitamin D deficiency/lack of sunlight, hormonal and thyroid imbalances,
genetic disorders, Lyme’s Disease, stress/lifestyle factors

With a few exceptions, the best treatment for these illnesses is regular cognitive therapy. Things like schizophrenia, dementia, and Tourette’s must be treated with pharmaceutical drugs, as the disorder is the direct result of physiological problems – all the alternative medicine in the world won’t help people who suffer from these illnesses.
For depressive disorder, I can tell you with some confidence that regular meditation can be hugely beneficial.
Healthy diet (including avoiding any chemicals like dyes and preservatives), exercise, and either cognative or dialectic behavior therapy should be the main treatment for most of the disorders you listed. Bipolar and Schizophrenia are chemical disorders and as such require medication to control. Just like diabetes requires medication to control.
If you look back 100 years, prior to the advent of psychiatric drugs, you will see that most of those with Bipolar or Schizophrenia spent their lives locked up in institutions….. If the world were to do away with psychiatric drugs millions who currently live independent lives would have to be locked away again……..
You have a choice to not take psychiatric drugs if you so choose but you do not have the right to make the choice for other people. My psychiatric drugs do not cause me any of the side effects or harm you talk about. What they do is enable me to have a normal life. A life with a job, a family, a home……. Without them I would be a drooling idiot in some psych ward somewhere.
I read an interesting article about low serotonin levels. Symptoms include clinical depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anorexia, bulimia, body dysmorphic disorder, social anxiety, phobias, suidical thoughts and actions, self harm, poor concentration and attention, fatigue, memory problems, loss of libido, social withdrawal, emotional sadness and frequent crying spells, becoming emotionally numb, loss of personality, behavioural problems/outbursts/anger, insomnia, hot flushes and temperature changes, headaches, and stomach distress. And that is just one of the many neurotransmitters in the brain!
Serotonin – from bliss to despair:

What affects serotonin levels are vitamin and mineral deficiencies – B vitamins, vitamin C, magnesium, zinc, calcium, iron and lack of tryptophan foods in the diet, stress (massage, reiki, mediation and exercise all decrease stress levels), hormonal imbalances including thyroid imbalance, lack of sunlight, food allergies, heavy metals, poor diet including too much fat and sugar. Addressing the underlying condition is crucial to curing the mental illness. The gut/brain link has been well established and absorption problems lead to any sort of mental conditions. Low stomach acid/lack of digestive enzymes in the diet, use of acid blockers affect absorption of vital nutrients in the stomach, overgrowth of candida, celiac’s disease, crohn’s disease, to name a few, prevent vital absorption of essential vitamins and minerals in the gut. A hair analysis can check for any metal toxicity. Excessive copper blocks the biochemical pathway to serotonin.
Essential vitamins and minerals needed for serotonin and melatonin:
Biochemical pathways:

The amino acid L-tryptophan is essential in the pathway to serotonin (feel good chemical and moodstabiliser). When deficient in niacin (vitamin B3), L-tryptophan makes niacin in the liver. 60mg of L-tryptophan is needed to make 1mg of niacin so this conversion uses up L-tryptophan and prevents convertion to 5HTP then into serotonin and then into melatonin (sleep hormone). This is why niacin treatment is effective.
Other problems that can manifest themselves as mental illnesses are bacterial infections such as Lyme’s disease, tape worms, parasites and viral infections like toxoplasmosis.
Mental illness from infections:

The following conditions can be caused by many undiagnosed factors…this is what i have found:
BIPOLAR – Lyme’s disease, vitamin B12 deficiency, hormonal imbalances, essential vitamin and mineral deficiencies, a poor diet, stress causing low serotonin levels, genetic disorders. Niacin treatment have been used successfully to cure bipolar.
SCHIZOPHRENIA – niacin treatment has been used successfully to cure schizophrenia since 1952 as shown in Dr Hoffer studies: http://www.doctoryourself.com/hoffer_niacin.html
29 other conditions cause schizophrenia including hypothyroidism, gluten intolerance, vitamin B12 deficiency and heavy metal toxicity: http://www.alternativementalhealth.com/articles/causesofschizophrenia.htm
Non drug treatment houses for schizophrenia has shown to be more effective with lower cost than conventional treatment. http://www.moshersoteria.com/
ADD/ADHD – Nutritional studies show 80% reversal of symptoms within 2 weeks of eating no processed food and food additives. L-theanine, a substance in green tea, is a treatment used in Japan for attention problems. Genetic disorders, artificial food colours, poor diet, Lyme’s disease, mould, gluten intolerance, low serotonin levels, vitamin B12 deficiency.
ADHD:

OCD – Stressful events can trigger of this condition. Cognitive therapy is shown to be very successful. Symptom of low serotonin levels.
ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION – low serotonin levels, lack of essential vitamins and minerals, Vitamin D deficiency/lack of sunlight, hormonal and thyroid imbalances, genetic disorders, Lyme’s Disease, stress/lifestyle factors.
DEMENTIA/ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE – Heavy metals such as mercury (dental amalgam, fish, vaccinations, environmental toxin) are the main cause of Alzheimer’s/dementia and other brain diseases. Up to 25% of the elderly in nursing homes diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease were actually vitamin B12 deficient. Vitamin B12 deficiency causes many mental disorders besides Alzheimer’s. Aspartame and MSG neurotoxins are linked to causing Alzheimer’s Disease.

Mental changes from B12 deficiency are almost always misdiagnosed:

PHOBIAS – shown in low serotonin levels, exposure to phobia therapy known as systematic desensitization is effective.

So, there you have it…my imput
Personally I use Jin Shin Jyutsu. Not for depression, but I know it also works for depression; it will at least give you some lighter feeling, so to think clear.
I don’t know if it’s easy to find a book with the organ flows, in Dutch there is, but I don’t know if the book exists in English
This is the book in German :

All face flows (bladder, gall bladder, and stomach) are good for mental/emotional dis-ease.
Depression has a wide range of labels, so in order to know what is the cause for you, you need to study the system, or else find somebody to treat you once, so he/she can give advise on what is best to use in your case.
Also you can do this flow

to get more energy. Even 10 minutes for the whole flow can make a big difference for some hours :
I hope this may serve you well.
A judicious blend of Homeopathy,Bach flower therapy,Natural diet,Yoga and psycho-therapy is good for clinical depression.
Health and Happiness!
