If you suffer from back pain, you are not alone. As many as not 8 out 10 people suffer from some sort of back pain.  You may suffer from a dull, constant ache to a sudden sharp pain.  Although there is a wide spectrum of back pains, in general there are two groups:  acute back pain and chronic back pain.  Acute back pain is typically is a temporary condition and you may recover within a few days or even  a few weeks.  On the other hand, chronic back pain, lasts for longer periods of time.  Unfortunately, with chronic back pain the expected healing time for the identified cause may persist even after the cause has been treated.  In time you either become more accustomed to the pain or you can seek relief from the pain.

Studies show that seventy to eighty five percent of Americans experience back pain at some point in life. It is the usual culprit when people below the age of forty five have limited range of motion and need to curtail normal activity. It can be triggered by inactivity or too much activity or the wrong kind of movement. Standing or sitting for long periods can trigger it. In women, wearing high heels often becomes impossible. You can prevent and treat back pain, though, through massage therapy and this is easily accessible in Indian Rocks Beach, Belleair and Largo 33771.

A study conducted at the Center for Integrative Medicine at the Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center in Los Angeles showed that seventy five percent of the participants who underwent therapeutic massage therapy for back pain benefited from it, exhibiting a higher efficacy than medication, self-care alone or other alternative pain treatments like acupuncture.

Acupuncture is part of a centauries old system called Traditional Chinese Medicine, or T.C.M. Used for all types of diseases and also for strengthening the body’s resistance against infections, this ancient treatment had only one disadvantage, namely the needles. Traditional Chinese Acupuncture inserts needles of varying sizes into different parts of the body in energy “hot spots” located along lines that look a little like a railway map. These spots are found all over the body, corresponding to and stimulating organs and systems to promote health and recovery from illness. Recent developments in technology have found a way to enjoy the health benefits of acupuncture without the drawback of needles.

Pain Relief Options: Natural and Medical

At some point in our lives, we will experience some sort of chronic pain that we positively hate and wish to go away. But as much as we seek pain relief immediately and despise the discomfort, the truth is that pain is useful to our survival as it alerts us to problems within our body. Pain also prevents a person from further injuring themselves and so it can be very useful. But, while useful, we all seek pain relief from time to time because-well, it hurts!

Texas is one of many states with thousands, possibly millions, of its residents suffering from chronic pain. Overall, chronic pain will affect between 15% and 33% of the U.S. population every year, and cost the nation $70 billion in medical charges, lost working days, and workers’ compensation — more than cancer and heart disease combined.

Chronic pain can be induced by a variety of situations, including work-related injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome, neurological disorders, joint disease, migraines, and autoimmune diseases, such as rheumatoid arthritis. Most chronic pain is located in the back, hip, and/or shoulders. Particularly with the proper health insurance coverage, however, these conditions can be effectively treated and, if not cured, at least managed. Texas is filled with clinics and doctors specializing in pain management — from Austin, to Dallas, to Houston.

How does acupuncture help relieve pain?

i have a phobia of needles (extreme fear) and i wanted to know how acupuncture is supposed to help if they are sticking needles in you! would a person like me even be helped by it or be too stressed for it? and please don’t say “chi” unless you can provide scientific back up.

Osteopathy (known as OMM osteopathic manipulative medicine in the U.S.),  stresses  the connection between all organ systems of the body, specifically focusing on the Musculoskeletal System, and its function throughout the entire body to unify the circulatory, nervous, endocrine, immune, and musculoskeletal systems to function one cohesive unit.  This, combined with good dietary and /or exercise prescription can enhance a fibromyalgia (FM) patient’s well being.  It is also said to be helpful in treating FM’s over-lapping conditions as well (i.e., CFS, CMP or MPS, IBS & others).  In most countries osteopathy uses a more holistic approach and the use of a range of manual and physical treatment interventions.

Early intervention by an osteopath allows probable sources of referred pain to be identified, making it possible for you to change to your lifestyle now to avoid the inevitable pain later on.  Osteopaths can offer prevention advice such as stretching exercises, lifting techniques, posture, breathing and stress reduction, so that individuals can maintain their own health.

Many Westerners have been trying Chinese acupuncture and medicine when pills and doctors weren’t helping them. Many people who are faced with conditions such as fibromyalgia, tendonitis, or osteoporosis feel that there is no hope of long lasting relief from their symptoms. People that suffer from depression and chronic headaches will benefit from trying Chinese acupuncture.

Evidently, the most current study of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in the USA claims that 8.2 million Americans have experienced acupuncture therapy at some point in their lives. Of those people, 2.1 million have tried acupuncture this past year. Acupuncture works through the use of filiform needles that are inserted and maneuvered in certain points on the body to provide freedom from pain. There is more to Chinese medicine than just visiting an acupuncture clinic. There is a wide array of herbal medicines and remedies to try.
