I have severe panic attacks, generalized anxiety. Does anyone take Lexapro for this and does it help? How long?
I have tried zoloft and paxil with extreme negative side effects including worsened anxiety, I’ve also been trying alternative therapies such as acupuncture and chinese herbs. They helped for a while but the attacks are back with a vengeance. Daily functioning has become hard. I’m curious about Lexapro and if anyone with the same probs may have benefited from it. Also, how long did it take to notice a difference? Please help
Thanks

I am diagnosed with general anxiety disorder. I tried taking Lexapro, however it is an anti-anxiety/depression medication. The other two you have taken are both anti-depressants which would cause extreme side effects.
There are three highly anxiety medications that I recommend. They are all addictive and but for some they work at a low dose. I started with Klonopin but reached the max. I then took Xanax and was tolerating it well however started having chest pains and other aches(they would go away of course, but hated it). I changed to Valium you can take up to 60 mg a day but I find 10mg a day in the morning has gotten rid of my aches n pains in different places everyday and also I have not had an attack since I started taking it. That was 6 months ago.
You may have to look at what is causing all this, are you under allot of stress because of something you are doing, such as worrying about stuff, is someone putting to much pressure on you or trying to control you in some way. are you wanting something you cannot have. in other words, do you have to much on your plate. Sometime a relationship with someone can be the cause, you may need to separate for awhile, but this won’t cure the situation it will only give you some relief for a while. Are you trying to hard to get your life to where you want it to be, You might have to settle for less such as to sticking to the things you really need, that is, stuff that will help you survive just another day, Ask yourself, who am I and what can I do. ask yourself this every time you feel an anxiety rush coming on. You really need to find something you really like to do, something that help you feel good inside. I like helping people such as you and I don’t ask anything in return. I like giving what I can and just feeling good that there are still some good people left in this world and if there isn’t, then I get to do something that hasn’t been done in a long times. I do pray and more importantly I am honest with myself, never lie to yourself. Get out and do something, volunteer your time and do something for someone else. get to know your talents and all your strengths and weaknesses. stand firm on what you find. eat right and exercise when you can. maybe you can help children somewhere or an older person might need a hand getting along. go have morning coffee at McDonald’s and talk to people, because if you don’t change what has happened from the last 6 months, then it will be the same for the next 6 months. or another way of looking at it is, If you Always do what you always done, You will always get what you always got. So make some changes an take control of what you Think Feel and Do. I hope this is not to much info. Take you time and let thing happen for you and not to you. OK!
I took Lexapro for a while and it was ok. I didn’t have any side affects and it did help my anxiety some. Unfortunately I’m on Prozac now and it doesn’t seem to be helping at all. I also seem to be tired a lot more than before. It takes about 2 to 4 weeks for it to start working. It’s hard to judge because its gradual. It didn’t cure me but it was a lot easier to do things such as talk to people. My best advise is to give it a try, make sure you give it the appropriate amount of time to start working, too. And while I noticed a difference sooner I’m pretty sure I was told it could take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks. Seems like a long time but if it works for you it’ll be worth it.
