Anxiety and emotional issues can definitely cause sciatica (and other physiological problems). You can try EFT (emotional freedom technique) -- free how-to info. at Mercola.com and on youtube. It involves "tapping" accupressure points on your face. It's been successfully used by people for a variety of health problems (including OCD, PTSD, etc.) So if it will eliminate post traumatic stress there's no reason it wouldn't work for you. Well worth the try, and it doesn't cost you a cent.
Non drug therapies that work are osteopathy, chiropractic, and homeopathy, but if you can't afford treatment then you have to do some do it yourselfing.
There are quite a few websites that illustrate effective exercises that help if you just google exercises for sciatica/back problems.

I don't know if the nervous illness is creating the problem. However, I have had some unusual physical problems due to stress. Our emotional state can manifest in many different ways in our bodies.

If it isn't too bad, then here is a stretch that can take the pressure off. I find it best to do after a hot shower.

Lying on your side, stabilise your position with the bottom leg, extend the top leg in front of you (keeping it straight) and towards the floor a little (i.e so it is slightly across your body). You will feel a stretch up the back of your leg. Do both sides if necessary. To help with the stretch, roll a small towel and loop around your foot, holding both ends so you can pull your leg further forward.

This works to treat the problem and also as a preventative.

There could be a connection because it is all the nervous system..... Make sure you get enough B complex vitamins and magnesium and calcium....these support the nervous system. Glucosamine might help.....i know someone who has sciatica and glucosamine is giving them some relief. The herb valerian is also worth trying. You could also try a supplement containing GLA (e.g. evening primrose oil or blackcurrant seed oil) as long as you don't have epilepsy. But check with your doctor or pharmacist first before taking any supplements, especially herbals, if you are on any prescribed medications or have any medical conditions.

Look into practicing meditation if you are not already, as that is something you can do in the comfort of your own home....that should help with your general nervousness including panic attacks.

Best wishes.

"Mr E" suggests an "HIO" chiropractor. This is his suggestion for practically every question he answers.

"HIO" Chiropractors are such ridiculous quacks even mainstream chiropractors laugh at them. "HIO" chiropractors believe ALL disease (OK — 95%) is due to a misalignment of a single (topmost) vertebra. ALL their treatments for ALL diseases and maladies involve manipulations of this single vertebra at the top of the spine. You are very unlikely to get effective help from a chiropractor.

If you like the bone-cracking stuff, see a USA-trained Osteopathic Physician, but ultimately you should be seeing a Psychiatrist (who may also be a Osteopathic Physician) or Clinical Psychologist. Your county medical office may be able to refer you to free or cheap assistance.

Congrats Mesha on changing your lifestyle and losing 50 pounds!

Anxiety/Panic Attack

1. Cold Showers: Start off with a comfortable water temperature. Gradually decrease the water temperature. After a few minutes, gradually increase the water temperature back to a comfortable temperature. Take one to two showers like this a day for several weeks to several months.

2. Oral niacinamide (vitamin B3): Take 100 to 750 milligrams of vitamin B3 mixed in water. It can also be taken in divided doses of 250 milligrams of vitamin B3 four times throughout the day. Users have safely been able to take up to two to three grams of B3 a day (high doses may cause nausea). Anxiety should be felt within 30 minutes.

3. Lavender Oil (mild effect) or Narcissus Oil (stronger effect) Aromatherapy (reduces depression and anxiety): Apply either or both oils to a cotton ball or tissue and smell and/or freshen the room (in excess can cause sleepiness).

Sciatica

Oral Candied Ginger Slices: Eat a few pieces of the candied ginger slices a day while the ailment persists.

Hey, I wondered what types of therapies have you tried? Did you follow them through to the end or stopped half way through? I'm not from the states, so I am not familiar with therapies where you are, but in England there are fewer therapies as there is much more regulation. I have been told by a Pyschiatrist that the most effective treatment for anxiety and depression is Cognitive and Behavioural Therapy - have you tried this at all? Thank you for your honesty in your video.

I have even more respect for you after watching this video. I've suffered silently for YEARS and have really just got the courage to tell my family about my struggle. It's a complete uphill battle, but it's one I want to take on. There have been countless times were feel like I could end it all, but just talking about it even the tiniest bit and knowing that I'm not alone has given me the push in the right direction. Thank you for opening up.

I have even more respect for you after watching this video. I’ve suffered silently for YEARS and have really just got the courage to tell my family about my struggle. It’s a complete uphill battle, but it’s one I want to take on. There have been countless times were feel like I could end it all, but just talking about it even the tiniest bit and knowing that I’m not alone has given me the push in the right direction. Thank you for opening up.
