Question by MeaCulpa: back fracture and confused?
I’m 43. After having no back problems for about 7 years,I have had a bad back now for about two months. I suffered no trauma so its been confounding. After nursing it it only got worse. I finally had x rays and they found a “grade 1 anterior wedge fracture of L1″ with “asymmetry and surely discopathy same region”
I believe the reason I had no back pain for 7 years is I was a swimmer but have not swam for a year now. I went for my first swim 2 days ago with a bad back and it seemed to not bother it or make it worse.
I am so confused as to treatment. I have no health insurance- the doc wants me to get insurance, then an MRI and then a referral to a orthopedist. Then So many suggestions- chiropractor, acupuncture, Egoscue method, alpha biotics, the Zinn meditation thing etc, etc. I am depressed as the pain has affected all parts of my life. This depression has impaired my ability to choose a method and i’m paranoid about spending more money for a pipe dream. Can anyone help me?
