Hi, I am an Indian living in Japan. I used to have moustache. About 8 months back I had patches of hair disappear at random locations in my mustache as well as in the head. Dermatologist said its alopecia areta or it happens due to stress. I tried some medicine and acupuncture. Currently the hair in the head has grown back but about 1 cm in the moustache area is without hair. I heard in India there are steroid medicines / injections that some doctors prescribe.
Doctors in Japan they have no idea about hair loss in mustache because most of them dont have mustache. I need help. I will really appreciate if you could provide any information in this regard.
Thanks.

In-laws pressuring me to induce?

My in-laws are starting to get crazy (well, they’ve always been control freaks) about my pregnancy, and I’d love some input on how to respond to them.

I am 41 weeks and 1 day pregnant with our first baby. I’ve taken lots of childbirth classes and done a lot of research throughout the pregnancy, and apparently it is perfectly normal for first pregnancies to go an average of ten days past the due date. Although tired and really ready for it to be over already, I am not worried at all and don’t feel like a freak of nature. I’ve tried acupuncture, herbs, walking and sex to get it move along, but nothing’s worked. This leads me to believe that the baby is just not yet totally ready.

My blood pressure is stellar, and this morning my non-stress test showed a healthy, active baby with a great heartbeat and activity level. I have ample amniotic fluid, and my placenta has a little bit of calcification but just looks like an “at-term” placenta.

Has NE1 had any luck with the use of a topical analgesic product like Tiger Balm for migraines or other various types of headaches? I am particularly interested in its use for headaches due to stress, eyestrain, dehydration or from lack of (quality) sleep.

I have had some moderate success when I apply it under my nostrils, at my temples, across the forehead and between the eyebrows.

I say liberal because the only people I know that touted these things were liberals I know.

Ten years ago the government set out to test herbal and other alternative health remedies to find the ones that work. After spending $2.5 billion, the disappointing answer seems to be that almost none of them do.

Echinacea for colds. Ginkgo biloba for memory. Glucosamine and chondroitin for arthritis. Black cohosh for menopausal hot flashes. Saw palmetto for prostate problems. Shark cartilage for cancer. All proved no better than dummy pills in big studies funded by the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine. The lone exception: ginger capsules may help chemotherapy nausea.
