In light of his new book being released, “Acupuncture Desk Reference”, David J. Kuoch, LAc details effective acupuncture treatments for 5 different symptoms:
Arthritis
Arthritis is a condition that causes pain, stiffness and swelling in and around joints. There are more than 100 different types of arthritis, and each type is characterized by joint and musculoskeletal pain, often the result of inflammation of the joint lining. Arthritis affects hundreds of millions of people across the globe. Approximately 50% of people older than 65 live with arthritis, but it can affect people of all ages, even young children. Although symptoms vary in each person, those with arthritis find that the condition will interfere with daily activities at some point. Due to the pain and stiffness, patients may have trouble getting out of bed, writing, sewing, buttoning clothes, dressing, walking, and climbing stairs, for example. But this is not always the case. Some days are better than others, and the severity of symptoms can change from day to day. Sometimes living with the loss of function and movement is more difficult than the pain of arthritis itself.

I would be very appreciative for detailed info on your experiences with anything relevant such as meditation, yoga, acupuncture etc.
I have seen therapists and taken medications, they help somewhat but as I said my case is not severe…just an underlying feeling of uneasiness and that “things aren’t quite right.”
My gut feeling is that some sort of meditation etc would help, but I also hear that some types are considered “scams” etc…please help!

About 4 months ago out of the blue I started having panic attacks. I don’t know how to stop them. I tried acupuncture and chiropractor. They both seemed to make them not so severe and not as often but I can’t seem to shake them. Ok I know im not dying, I know it’s just in my head, I know that there is no reason for them. I know it’s not a big deal. But I still have them, I try to talk myself out of it and it usually works but they just scare the crap out of me. I get these really bad headaches daily. I been trying not to go on antidepressants but its starting to look like an only option. I been taking magnesium and a multivitamin for about a week, so far no relief. Any suggestions?

The acupuncture and history goes like this, more than 2,000 years ago, Chinese healers discovered that manipulating certain points on the bodies of their patients seemed to make them feel a lot better. As they experimented, these healers began using sharpened stones to manipulate these points. These instruments eventually evolved into needles.

Anxiety attack treatment is available for men and women who are prone to getting anxiety attacks. These people can seek help in acupuncture. Acupuncture has been tested in clinical studies to improve a variety of disorders, and even diseases. Its effect on panic attacks is related to the way your body responds to fear.
As you’re in the midst of panic, your heart might be pounding, you may feel short of breath, like you’re choking — you might start perspiring, shaking, or feeling that life is out of control or that you’re dying. Another part of panic attacks is feeling like you need to run from the situation, but you can’t.

Bill, a Cancer Survivor
I have a patient named Bill who is a cancer survivor. He recently beat Lymphoma. Bill is a new patient who is aware of “doing everything natural”. Bill comes to see me for a health maintenance package. He’s healthy today; we need to keep him that way.
Luckily, Bill has an open mind. He now knows he has to eat organic, and, maintain the 3 peg points to health: Diet, Exercise and NO Smoking. At 60, Bill looks at least 10 years younger, he does not smoke, walks a mile a day, eats lots of organic green leafy vegetables, and fruit. He stays calm and sleeps approximately 6-7 hours a day. Not all baby boomers I’ve met, and, treated are like Bill. He is lucky to have good genes, a loving family, and, keeps busy with his investments. He proclaims, “I’m saving money when I come here for my monthly health tune-ups. I know I was diagnosed and, treated for cancer and I need all the help I can get. I think it helps me stay calm and clean “He knows he has the best of both worlds Chinese medicine complementing his regular health plan. He realizes that whatever disease he may already have can get cleaned up, and, he get to live a longer healthier life.

I live in northern Virginia and I’m thinking about getting acupuncture treatments for depression and allergies. Can anyone in the northern Virginia area recommend a good practitioner to me? I’ve searched online, but I can’t find many reviews for acupuncture places around here. Also, what can I expect to pay per session for the treatments?
